![]() Next upgrade level you can choose one of 5 skulls/items and at max upgrade level you can select any skull you want, even upgrade it right away, as long as you brought the DQ for it. You could give it multiple stages, like for example after the first upgrade they offer 3 randomly chosen skulls/items and you can buy one, price in DQ depending on the power of the skull/item. Maybe it would be cool if you could upgrade the Fox and the Ogre so that instead of randomly giving you skulls/items they start to have a menu where you can buy one. I know player skill also plays a role, but I still feel like the RNG is too punishing. Even if you grind up the Dark Quartz to pay the Witch for some upgrades it doesn't seem like too much and without good RNG you probably won't make it far and won't get a lot of quartz. The second problem is that I feel like there is barely any persistent progression. Or compare it to Binding of Isaac which is all about trying to overcome the RNG by giving you a ton of options. For example if you find a powerful weapon early on you can focus on raising the associated stat. Take Dead Cells for example, in Dead Cells you find a lot of weapons and a lot of stat upgrades which allow you to take a more specialized approach of your choice early on. I agree that the game is hard and for me it comes down to 2 things:įirst is the RNG system which I feel is too punishing, I always feel like I'm pretty much completely at the mercy of it and unlike other similar games the game doesn't seem to really offer you anything you can do to mitigate that. I’m sure if I had the game on release and played it for however long and unlocked everything I’d probably have no issue, but unfortunately as a new player it just doesn’t feel reasonable, which isn’t a problem that I’ve had with other rogue likes like nuclear throne, synthetik, etc, a lot of which are regarded as insanely hard, but the major thing there was that it’s almost entirely skill based, you can essentially beat gungeon on your first run, that’s not something I’d believe about this. So as things stand now, with only a handful of the first and second tier upgrades, no matter what my skull it takes a REALLY long time to down the ent It takes like 30 seconds to kill the REGULAR ents if you have a weak skull, the boss is just ridiculous and from what I’ve seen from the rest of this sub it seems like the last two updates or so increased the difficult considerably See that’s just factually untrue, I’m playing the game right now and I just died to the boss multiple times in a row with unique skulls But I digress, I don't want to get into dissecting each game and comparing them. Hades can be fast and overwhelming too on high heat but there exists overall strong abilities to compensate. Those games have fewer enemies with good tells to allow the player to react. It's low tier compared to Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon, and Hades. ![]() I beat it but didn't like Skul in the end. I cheated to skip the grind, and I only beat it on rookie with focus on damage reduction and high power so my opinion is probably invalid to some people. There's a problem with low visibility and high particles too. The amount of fast acting enemies and high health they have (or the overall garbage low damage Skul has) is overwhelming so there's little you can do to avoid damage just due to the fact there are so many of them unless you deliberately take it as slow as molasses or have god RNG with items. IMO, the art and concept is amazing, but the problem with Skul is poor game design. ![]() ![]() I've played those games and beaten them legit. ![]()
